Hello, we are moving to an area which is in a high bushfire zone in Victoria (which area isn't!) and am wondering are there any ornamental grasses to avoid? On the other hand, any ornamental grasses which will not prove a danger? Thank you.

I also live in a high bushfire zone in the Adelaide Hills. I have a lot of lomandra tanika and a few miscanthus, calamagrostis, and stipa arundinacea within 20m of the house.
I think the seed heads of the miscanthus, calamagrostis, and stipa arundinacea would all burn pretty well in a fire. I’ve mitigated this through an overhead sprinkler system.
I think the lomandra is relatively safe so long as it’s well cared for (all dead leaves removed and kept watered well enough to keep it nice and green).
Please don’t take this as professional advice – it’s just my thinking based on living in the Hills for 15 years and having a couple of fires getting pretty close to our house.
