Just give me a year

It’s completely baffling to me how English, American (and, frankly, therefore Australian) gardeners and designers have remained profoundly ignorant of the rigorous research being carried out in Germany, focussing on ecologically responsible perennial planting. A lot of it has occurred at Weihenstephan, just outside of Munich.

Check out this ten minute video of my first visit to this amazing location. There’s colour-use lessons in there, plant-shape lessons and fabulous examples of the visual power of plants in their correct context and community. I’d love to have spent days there. Preferably weeks. In fact give me a year, actually working there.

Why not join me this August/September when I’ll be re-visiting Weihenstephan, along with a list of the best of the UK’s and Europe’s contemporary perennials plantings?
