Two weeks of resilience, romance and beauty

WOW!

It’s the only possible response to the last two weeks – our very first Travelling Masterclass, taking in and teasing apart, the best naturalistic perennial plantings in the UK, The Netherlands and Germany.

We gathered together a diverse group of people with one thing in common – a huge appetite to learn as much as they could about the plants and the principles of this emerging style of gardening.

Together we went on a journey to see how this planting applies to intensely personal gardens, like that of Dan Pearson’s own ‘Hillside’, through teaching gardens such as Weihenstephan and Hermannshof, public parks like Sheridan Park, and even commercial spaces like the car park of tech-giant ABB in Mannheim.

The plantings were as individual as the sites, demonstrating the artistic possibilities of this group of plants and their resilience in the face of diminishing resources and climate change, all the while pressing buttons of romance and beauty.

I doubt that any of us will ever garden in quite the same way again.
