Weekly Newsletter: 29th October 2024

Have you ever seen Steven Wells’ amazing apartment garden, of just 350㎡, in Montmorency, Victoria? I’ve said elsewhere that it contains ten times more design ideas than many gardens ten times its size. But given that it’s on the market, I thought I’d dash down last week and shoot some video. Ash was OS, so it was just me and an iPhone. Check it out here

It would really appear that Steven’s creativity knows no bounds, and there’s just so, so much to learn from it – for any garden of any size, but small gardens in particular.

Oh, and if you’d be interested in purchasing this amazing property (I’ve been trying to work out how I can justify it myself), check it out at https://www.realestate.com.au/property-unit-vic-montmorency-146217848. Or perhaps check it out at the next opening.

Ash and I are delighted to announce the launch of our New Naturalism tour for September 2025. This is our flagship tour – the one for which international travel started for us, and is focussed on the best of naturalistic perennial gardens throughout the UK. It’s filled with up-close-and-personal experiences with the best practitioners in this style, and many visits to their own gardens.  Check out the details here.

One of our participants this year, designer Jenny Whitehead from Port Fairy, said:
“This beautifully considered and executed tour was a deep dive into contemporary and heartwarming garden thinking. Lead by the inimitable Michael McCoy and his very thoughtful team, with so many warm and generous welcomes and insights by leading designers and inspirational hosts. It was an absolute joy!”

While Linda Black, in 2023 said:
“Michael provided exceptional experiences, with privileged access to some of the best gardens, owners and designers. Combined with stimulating and informative discussions, I learned so much during this tour, while enjoying the company of many wonderful, like-minded gardeners. A top quality experience and seamless organisation throughout.”

We’re so excited to be running this tour again – each year with new inclusions, keeping it fresh and as thrilling for us as any of our participants.

Hope you’ve had a stupendous October! I’ve loved every minute. Now for a magical November ahead!

Michael

PLANT OF THE WEEK #92: Parthenocissus quinquefolia (Virginia creeper)

I vividly recall nearing the end of a slow, slow walk though the sun-bleached grounds of the Villa San Giuliano in Sicily, and stepping into the dim, sepulchral light of the family chapel.  For many ...
