I just wanted to share this photo. About 12 months ago Michael suggested I add some Plectranthus ecklonii to a shady bed on the east side of our garden. They have been so successful and, at this time of the year, their beautiful purple flowers greet me every morning when I look out the kitchen window. Thanks for the recommendation Michael
Hi Rachael, It’s such a good plant, isn’t it? I grew to love it under the oaks on the drive at Ripponlea when I was an apprentice nearly 30 years ago, and have wondered ever since why it’s not a staple of deep shade in Melbourne gardens. I love that it’s so late (in the season) to flower, and so wonderfully richly purple.
I have this plectranthus ecklonii as well as a white one and they do beautifully under shady trees here in my Southern Highlands (NSW) garden. I also like the Plectranthus argentatus with the silver fury leaves for contrast.
